By Oke Peter Foremost power exhibition and conference, Power Nigeria 2018 has ended on Thursday, after three days of showcasing latest power solutions, developments and innovations in the power industry. The event, held between 25 and 27 September, at the Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria, had in attendance over 100 exhibitors from more than 17 countries. The conference and exhibition brought together decision makers, experts, power sector stakeholders and professionals to discuss latest trends in the country’s power sector. While declaring open the event, Kaduna State deputy governor, Bala Bantex, commended the organiser of the event, Informa Exhibitions for its commitment and interest in organising the Power Nigeria Agenda conference. In his welcome address, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Babatunde Ruwase, emphasised the importance of the power sector in the nation building. According to him: “Power sector is too strategic to be left solely as a commercial framework with profit as the most important motivation. Power sector goes beyond business and profit making venture, it can solve employment problem, alleviate poverty and enhancing our economy remarkably, hence the need for the government to intervene in the development of the sector.” The exhibition manager, Power Nigeria, Sheetij Taneja, disclosed that the three-day event has given the company the privilege of meeting with government representatives, investors, associations, Nigerian power market and provided delegates the opportunity to attend free educational CPD-sessions, as well as improving their knowledge and skills. Leading power sector players and exhibitors at the event include: Skipper Seil, Lucy Electric, Schneider Electric, GIL Automations, Jubaili Bros, Elsewedy Electric Nigeria, GreenVille LNG, Ikeja Electric, 2MKablo, Greco Power and Energy, Hongguang Electrical Group, Neata Super Energy, Techno Industries PVT, Jiaxing Yongxin Electron Company, GTA Engineering, BHOJSONS, Sollatek, Elitech, Dongguan Zhongzhun Energy Technology, Patod Solar, Geogrid Energy, Tranos and I Solar among others. Others are: Gridless Africa, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Generation Companies (Gencos), Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Climate Innovation Centre Nigeria (CICN), African Development Bank (AfDB), and Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and the EarthSpace Resources among others. Some of the topics discussed by panelists include: Policies required to better meet distributed energy demand; creating standards for Nigeria’s electricity marketplace; Loss reduction techniques for the utility-scale power industry; Introduction to the Climate Innovation Centre Nigeria (CICN); Off-grid strategies for 2019; Total lifecycle digital transformation in the utility industry and workshop on designing mini-grid systems among others. At the end of the three-day event, participants expressed satisfaction on the agenda of the conference. They commended Informa Exhibitions’ efforts at making Nigeria’s power sector more viable and relevant.
