The President-General of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), Dr Chris Okonkwo has charged members of the association to always address their grievances in a civilised manner to ensure harmonious relationship with their employer.
Dr Okonkwo gave the charge in his opening remarks, during a day seminar themed: ‘Managing the challenges of trade unionism in a privatised electricity industry’, organised by the South-West /Kwara Zone of the association, at Academy Suite, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, on Friday.
Okonkwo said: “Intellectual and capacity building is our strength in SSAEAC and we will continue to protect your interest as we are doing our best to ensure that your welfare is prioritised. Working in the electricity industry is challenging, but I urge you to address your grievances in a civilised ways and learn how to manage your emotion in a positive and constructive ways in a relationship with your employer.”
The Deputy General Secretary, SSAEAC, South-West/Kwara Zone, Comrade Jide Odueyingbo said the purpose of the seminar was to train members on the challenges facing the electricity industry and remain relevant.
The guest lecturer, Mr Freneged Joseph, while speaking on ‘Collective Bargaining’ said: “There will always be issues between employers and employees but mutual respect and understanding is an important tool to reach a common stand.”
SSAEAC members from Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Ibadan Disco, Ikeja Disco, Egbin Power Plc, Akungba Sub-Region, Ikeja West Sub-Region, Ojo Central Store and Ajah Sub-Region among others attended the event.
