Suspected vandal suffers burns while stealing electric cables



A suspected vandal, Saifullahi Sa’idu, of the Kadangaru Quarters, Dutsin-ma Local Government Area of Katsina State, is now in police custody after suffering serious burns while allegedly attempting to steal cables from a power transformer in Dutsin-ma town.

According to The Punch, Sa’idu was initially admitted to the General Hospital, Dutsin-ma before he was arrested by police detectives from Katsina.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, said Sa’idu was almost electrocuted while attempting to steal the transformer cables.

Isah stated, “On October 22, 2018, around 1.30am, the command succeeded in arresting one Saifullahi Sa’idu, 20, of the Kadangaru Quarters, Dutsin-ma, Local Government Area of Katsina State, who was nearly electrocuted while trying to cut off a power cable from a transformer in Dutsin-ma.

“The suspect sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital, Dutsin-ma, where he was treated and discharged. He will be charged to court.”

Isah also stated that the command recently rescued one Aminu Caji, 30, and Fatimah Haruna, both of the Danmusa Local Government Area from suspected kidnappers, during which some cache of arms were recovered.

He said, “We recovered two Ak-47 rifles with breech Nos: 75639 and 197821777 with seven and five rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, respectively.

“Similarly, on January 14, 2019, around 8pm, the command, after a fierce encounter with bandits, recovered one Ak-47 rifle with breech No. 20174 with 18 rounds of live ammunition and two Bajaj motorcycles from the hoodlums.”
