Durban, South Africa – Leading South African law firm Cox Yeats is pleased to announce the promotion of Savannah Buys to Senior Associate, recognising her contribution to the firm's Energy and Natural Resources practice and her continued commitment to delivering exceptional legal services to clients.
Buys joined Cox Yeats in 2021 as a Candidate Legal Practitioner and was appointed as an Associate in 2023. Since then, she has established herself as a respected member of the firm's commercial team, advising clients on a broad range of commercial, transactional and contractual matters, particularly within the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Her experience includes contractual review, drafting and negotiation, stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance matters and general commercial advisory work. Over time, her practice has evolved to focus increasingly on complex energy and projects matters, where legal, commercial, technical and regulatory considerations often intersect.

Buys holds a Bachelor of Arts (Law) and an LLB from Stellenbosch University and completed a semester exchange programme at the University of Antwerp in Belgium through the Stellenbosch Law Faculty. She was admitted as an attorney in 2023.
Driving growth in a critical sector
Laura Kelly, Partner and Head of Energy and Natural Resources at Cox Yeats, says Buys’ promotion reflects both her technical ability and her growing influence within the practice.
"Savannah has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment to her clients, an impressive understanding of the commercial realities facing businesses, and the ability to navigate increasingly complex transactions. She has become a trusted adviser within our Energy and Natural Resources practice, and this promotion recognises both her achievements to date and her considerable potential for the future. We are proud to see her reach this important career milestone."

Andrew Clark, Managing Partner at Cox Yeats, says the promotion reflects the firm's commitment to recognising and developing legal talent.

Looking ahead
Reflecting on her promotion, Buys says:
"This promotion is a milestone that I am incredibly proud of, but for me it represents much more than a title. It reflects the growth, trust and responsibility that have developed over my time at Cox Yeats. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given, the colleagues who have invested in my development and have placed their trust in me. I look forward to continuing to grow my practice and contributing to the ongoing success of the firm."
As South Africa's energy and infrastructure sectors continue to evolve, Buys will continue working with clients across the energy, projects and commercial landscape, helping them navigate regulatory, contractual and transactional challenges while advancing strategic business objectives. This next chapter will see her take on greater responsibility within the practice while continuing to support the firm's growth in key sectors of the economy.
