President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has received a warm welcome in Gode, Ethiopia, where he was hosted by the country’s Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
During the visit, both leaders inspected the site of the proposed fertiliser plant to assess the progress of ongoing construction works.
Ethiopia had signed a shareholders’ agreement with the Dangote Group in August last year to establish a urea fertiliser plant with an annual production capacity of three million metric tonnes.

Dangote disclosed that the company has increased its investment commitment to the project from $2.5 billion to over $4 billion, citing an expansion in scope. He explained that the new investment package now includes the construction of a 110-kilometre pipeline, a 120-megawatt power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility, and a two-million-tonne NPK blending plant.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described the project as a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, improving food security, and reducing the country’s dependence on imported fertiliser.
He noted that construction has been progressing steadily and expressed confidence that the project would deliver significant benefits to farmers, create employment opportunities, and contribute to overall economic growth.
The development further underscores Dangote Group’s commitment to driving industrial expansion and sustainable development across Africa.
