Dr. Adeola Ijeoma Eleri, Deputy Director, Renewable Energy Department, represented the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) at UNIDO’s First International Conference on Hydrogen in Industry, held from 8–10 April 2026 at the Vienna International Centre, Austria.
The conference brought together global stakeholders to explore the role of clean hydrogen in advancing sustainable industrial development. Discussions focused on accelerating investment, strengthening international cooperation, and identifying pathways for decarbonizing key sectors such as steel and fertilizers.
Dr. Eleri served as a panelist in the session on “Supporting the Transition to a Low Carbon Fertilizer Industry,” where she highlighted the role of clean hydrogen in decarbonization, energy security, and economic growth. She also emphasized the potential of low-carbon fertilizers to enhance food security and noted the impact of Nigeria’s Presidential Fertiliser Initiative in stabilizing fertilizer prices and supporting a transition to greener alternatives.
She further participated in a high-level session on scaling hydrogen deployment, where she stressed the need for clear regulatory frameworks, investment de-risking, technology transfer, and human capacity development to position Nigeria for a competitive hydrogen economy.
