A fire erupted on Friday at the Bono Energy Terminal in the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa, Lagos, triggering a swift response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).
The blaze occurred at the fuel storage terminal situated along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway. As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the incident had not been established by the relevant authorities.
Firefighters from the LSFRS were immediately deployed to the scene and were working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining petroleum facilities and other critical infrastructure in the area.
Confirming the development, the agency's spokesperson, Shakiru Amodu, said emergency responders were actively tackling the incident.
"The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently curbing a fire explosion at Bono Energy Terminal on Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, by Coconut, Olodi Apapa, Lagos. Update to follow," Amodu stated.
At the time of this report, there was no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of damage caused by the fire.
The incident has heightened concerns due to Apapa's status as one of Nigeria's major petroleum storage and distribution hubs, where several fuel depots and critical industrial facilities are located. Fires in the area require rapid intervention to prevent escalation and minimise disruption to operations.
