The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has begun recovering excess electricity units earlier credited to some customers following an internal system glitch that mistakenly applied an old tariff to their accounts.

The company disclosed this in a public announcement on its handles, explaining why some customers were lamenting over the reduction in what they got for units recently purchased.

The company explained that the error occurred between April and June 2026 and resulted in affected customers receiving more electricity units than they had actually paid for.

According to IBEDC, the development was responsible for some customers receiving fewer units than expected during recent vending.

The company stated, “Between April and June 2026, an internal system glitch mistakenly applied the old tariff to some customer accounts. This caused affected customers to receive more units than they had actually paid for.

It added, “We are now correcting this error by adjusting the excess units previously credited to affected accounts.”

“This correction is why some customers have noticed fewer units than expected in recent vending,” the electricity distribution company explained.

IBEDC stressed that there had been no change in the Band A tariff, stating that Band A customers remained billed at N209.50 per unit, inclusive of VAT.

The company said customers who wanted to establish whether their accounts were affected could contact its customer service line with their meter number, name and phone number.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by this system glitch and appreciate your understanding as we resolve the issue,” IBEDC stated.
