By Oke PeterThe Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially inaugurated a dedicated committee to oversee the implementation of its Performance Improvement Plan/Power Sector Recovery Operation (PIP/PSRO), effective June 17, 2025.The PIP/PSRO program, initiated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), is a vital framework aimed at boosting the efficiency and financial sustainability of the power sector. As a key player, TCN is tasked with addressing operational challenges within the transmission network, enhancing system reliability, and minimizing energy losses. The plan calls for better maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and improved operational practices.TCNSpeaking at the inauguration ceremony, TCN’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, noted that the NERC Order mandates the creation of a multi-stakeholder committee to guide the program’s execution. He stressed that the committee's responsibilities align with the directives in the NERC Order and the PSRO-AF Operation Manual, reaffirming TCN’s commitment to driving sector reform. He urged members to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to ensure timely, efficient implementation and monitoring of all projects under the initiative.

Also addressing the gathering, the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), Engr. Olugbenga Ajiboye, highlighted that the PIP establishes clear performance goals and accountability measures for stakeholders, thereby strengthening governance and oversight within the sector.

Committee Chairman and TCN General Manager, Transmission Services, Engr. Ali Sharafai, assured management of their dedication to meeting regulatory standards and resolving key transmission challenges. He emphasized that the committee’s work would promote a reliable and well-managed transmission system, paving the way for increased local and international investment.
