The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced ongoing efforts to restore full electricity supply to Lagos and its environs following a power disruption caused by a grid disturbance on Thursday morning.


According to TCN, the incident occurred at about 8:19 a.m. on June 25, 2026, when voltage instability on the national grid rapidly spread across the Lagos corridor. The disturbance led to the shutdown of some generating stations, transmission line outages, and a consequent interruption of power supply to Lagos and surrounding areas.


To contain the situation and prevent a wider system collapse, the National Control Centre immediately directed several power generation companies to reduce output. This intervention helped curb the resulting frequency rise, stabilize the grid, and limit further disruptions.

In response to the incident, the Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, convened an emergency meeting with the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to coordinate restoration efforts and develop measures to strengthen grid reliability.


TCN confirmed that the Benin–Egbin 330kV transmission line, which was affected during the disturbance, has been successfully restored and is currently transmitting bulk electricity. Meanwhile, a joint team of engineers from the Benin and Omotoso sub-regions is working to clear faults on the Benin–Omotoso 330kV transmission line to facilitate the full restoration of power supply to the Lagos complex.


The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to residents, businesses, and other electricity consumers affected by the outage, assuring the public that all relevant agencies are working round the clock to restore normal operations.


TCN reiterated its commitment to strengthening grid stability and minimizing the recurrence of similar incidents, while appealing to customers in affected areas to remain patient as restoration work continues.


The company added that further updates would be provided as progress is made on the ongoing repair efforts.
