The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has strengthened collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation to advance plans for connecting the Kano Railway Station and other railway operational facilities to the National Grid.
The move was discussed during a strategic stakeholders’ engagement held on July 7, 2026, at the TCN Kano Regional Headquarters, according to a statement signed by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
Mbah said the meeting focused on the proposed grid connection of railway infrastructure under the Federal Ministry of Transportation, particularly the Kano Railway Station and other associated operational facilities, with the aim of ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply for efficient rail operations.
Participants reviewed the technical requirements for the connection, project implementation timelines, operational coordination, system reliability, and the responsibilities of the various stakeholders involved in the project. Discussions also covered compliance with grid standards, network safety measures, and the seamless integration of the railway facilities into the national transmission network.
Speaking at the meeting, the General Manager (Transmission), Kano Region, Engr. M. K. Bello, emphasized the need for sustained collaboration among all stakeholders. He noted that early technical engagement would support smooth project execution and help guarantee dependable power supply to the railway infrastructure.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to working together to deliver the project in line with the Federal Government’s infrastructure development objectives. They said the planned grid connection is expected to improve the operational efficiency of the railway system, enhance service delivery in the transportation sector, and support the government’s broader agenda of strengthening critical national infrastructure through reliable electricity supply.
Representatives of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) Kano Region, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Team Nigeria, the project consultants, and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the project contractor, attended the meeting.
