Following insistent allegations of over billing, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), has assured residents of plans its plan to install statistical meters on all transformers.
The statistical meters, the managing director of the JEDC, Gidado Modibbo, said will bring an end to the suspicions in over billing by the distribution company.
Modibbo while speaking at a consultative forum on Thursday, March 14, will eliminate distrust among Jos residents over their electricity bills.
Represented by Mansir Nakande, the head of network planning and expansion, Modibbo said there is the possibility of metering all Jos Disco customers numbering over 400, 000.
He said that there are adequate meters at the disposal of the JEDC for onward free distribution to customers.
However commending the incessant destruction and vandalisation of JEDC facilities, Modibbo called on communities to take ownership of the company’s assets in their various localities.
“You are the direct users of these facilities. If you don’t protect it and they suffer vandalism or get destroyed, we all will be directly affected by it,” Modibbo said.
He also said that the JEDC has put in place machinery aimed at instituting corporate social responsibility projects that would be mutually beneficial to the various communities.
He added that the JEDC was currently considering the possibility of adopting community partnership approach.
He also explained that when strategy becomes operationalised, communities would profit immensely in terms of employment as well as infrastructural development.
The distribution company further urged residents to reciprocate the gestures by promptly paying for energy consumed by them.
