The House of Representatives Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation has postponed its meeting with the power generation companies, GENCOs, in the country.
The committee had last week sent a letter to the management of Egbin power plant notifying them of meeting on today in Abuja. The meeting was meant to address issues found to be affecting optimum performance of Privatised Power Generation Companies with a view to resolving them in the interest of the parties and the nation in general.
Sources closed to the committee informed our correspondent that the meeting was postponed because of other engagements. “The meeting has been postponed to sometime in June this year. The actual date will be communicated to GENCOs”, the source said.
Nigeria’s power sector, specifically the generation part in the value chain, has been rocked by severe crisis in recent time. Generation dropped recently to below 3,000 megawatts, and the biggest hit power plant was Egbin.
The drop came few days after the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, hinted that power generation is well above 5,000 megawatts
In the letter dated 9th May, 2018 sighted by SweetcrudeReports, the meeting was initially slated for Thursday 17th May, 2018 by 12:00 noon prompt at the Committee Room 0.28, New Building, House of Representatives, National Assembly, Abuja.
The letter stated that the meeting is to address issues found to be affecting optimum performance of Privatised Power Generation Companies with a view to resolving them in the interest of the parties and the nation in general.
The management of Egbin power plant and other generation companies are expected to prepare a concise written brief on the issue to the committee.
