Foremost metallurgy, power and gas projects company, MYTILINEOS SA has announced the signing of a contract with JAVNO PODJETJE LJUBLJANA, Ljubljana’s energy company engaged in electrical and thermal production, transmission and distribution, operating Slovenia’s largest District Heating System.
The contract involves the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction of a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant in Ljubljana, Slovenia, substituting to large coal with natural gas, thus reducing coal consumption by 70 percent.
The scope of the project includes the supply, installation and commissioning of two Siemens gas turbines and two heat recovery steam generators with necessary construction works and pipeline connections to the existing steam turbine with the devices.
According to a statement released by the firm on Thursday, the project will be completed within 30 months post the project commencement date, which, subject to normal permitting procedures, will be within the first half of the year.
The signing of the agreement was held on Thursday, at a special ceremony in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
This new dual fuel (natural gas or extra light fuel oil) combined heat and power plant with a total electrical power output of 110MW, is expected to make a vital contribution to meeting the electricity and district/process heating needs of Ljubljana’s citizens.
According to the company, the contract worth €118 million.
