Bauchi, Nigeria – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun the construction of a turn-in turn-out on the 330kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe transmission line to connect the newly built Bauchi 330kV Transmission Substation to the national grid.
The project, which commenced today, is scheduled for completion by June 14, 2025. As construction proceeds, temporary adjustments in power supply arrangements have been made to maintain service continuity. During the five-day period, Gombe and Biu Transmission Substations will receive power through the Dadin-Kowa Hydro Power Plant and the Maiduguri Substation, supplemented by the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).
However, customers served by the Jos and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies in Bauchi, Gombe, Ashaka, Savannah, Damaturu/Potiskum, and Biu may experience reduced bulk power supply. Full power outages are expected only in Yola and Jalingo throughout the project duration.
As part of the works, TCN is also installing a new transmission tower to boost the resilience and operational flexibility of the grid. Once complete, the upgrade will allow the Bauchi and Gombe Substations to serve as mutual backups during outages or maintenance. In addition, a 132kV line from Jos will enable direct supply to the Bauchi Substation in the event the main 330kV line via Gombe is unavailable—enhancing redundancy and emergency response capabilities.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and urged patience from affected electricity consumers. The company assured the public that normal power supply will resume immediately after the project’s completion.
