The NNPC/Nigeria Agip Exploration (NAE) partnership has awarded fully funded scholarships to thirty young Nigerians from diverse ethnic backgrounds to pursue Masters degrees in various fields of endeavour.
In a brief ceremony that took place in Abuja, on Friday, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer, Oluwaseyi Omotowa, represented by the Deputy Manager, External Relations, NUIMS, and the Managing Director of Nigeria Agip Exploration Ltd (NAE), Mr. Fabrizio Bolondi, jointly presented the scholarship awards, charging the awardees to take full advantage of the opportunity by pursuing their passions and contributing meaningfully to the nation’s economic development.
The NNPC/NAE Production Sharing Contract (PSC) Postgraduate Scholarship Award Scheme is a fully funded initiative for Nigerian graduates to undertake a one-year Master’s degree in disciplines such as Geosciences, Engineering, and Petroleum Economics. The awards comprise 10 scholarships of USD 50,000 each for the overseas programme, and scholarships worth five million Naira each for 20 postgraduate students admitted into Nigerian universities.
Instituted in 2004 by NNPC and ENI (the parent company of NAE), the scheme has become an annual feature, having awarded over 350 scholarships to Nigerian students to date. While 116 students have benefited from overseas programmes, 255 have received scholarships for studies in Nigerian universities. The scholarship scheme is one of the many ways NNPC Ltd., through its JV and PSC operations, continues to impact Nigerians and their communities.
