The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has assured the public of its continued commitment to reliable power delivery following the vandalization of its Tower T347 along the Gombe–Damaturu 330kV transmission line on Friday, October 24, 2025, at about 5:46 pm.
During a routine inspection, TCN’s dedicated engineering team discovered that the legs of Tower T347 had been cut, causing it to tilt. Despite this unfortunate act of sabotage, TCN’s quick intervention has minimized service disruption to affected areas.
Power supply to Maiduguri, Borno State, and Damaturu, Yobe State, is being sustained through alternative arrangements. The Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP) continues to supply bulk power to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for distribution through major 33kV feeders, including Beneshiek, Damasak, Bama, University, Campus, Maiduguri Town, Monguno, and others. Similarly, Damaturu and neighboring communities are being supplied via the Potiskum Substation to ensure service continuity.
TCN engineers have already mobilized to the site and are working round the clock to replace the damaged tower and fully restore normal transmission as soon as possible.
The company strongly condemns this act of vandalism against critical national infrastructure and appeals to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around power facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
TCN reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s power grid and ensuring stable electricity supply to all Nigerians despite operational challenges.
