The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported an improvement in the commercial performance of electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), with overall revenue recovery efficiency rising to 82.11 per cent in April 2026.


According to the commission's latest commercial performance factsheet, the electricity distribution segment recorded gains in billing, revenue collection and overall recovery efficiency during the month under review, reflecting improved operational performance across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).


The report showed that billing efficiency stood at 83.32 per cent, with the DisCos billing customers a total of ₦252.43 billion from the ₦302.96 billion worth of electricity received during the month.


NERC also disclosed that collection efficiency increased to 80.66 per cent, enabling the electricity distributors to realise a total revenue collection of ₦203.61 billion in April.


The commission said the industry's overall recovery efficiency reached 82.11 per cent, representing a 1.06 percentage point improvement compared to the previous month, an indication of stronger revenue recovery across the distribution network.

Among the 11 electricity distribution companies, Eko Electricity Distribution Company emerged as the best-performing utility, recording a recovery efficiency of 102.09 per cent during the period.


Abuja Electricity Distribution Company followed with a recovery efficiency of 89.77 per cent, while Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company ranked third after posting 88.89 per cent.


The improved performance comes as regulators and industry operators continue efforts to strengthen the financial viability of the power sector through enhanced billing accuracy, efficient revenue collection and better commercial operations.
