The Edo State Government has issued a licence for the construction of a 100-megawatt Independent Power Plant (IPP) as part of efforts to improve electricity generation and power supply across the state.
The licence was granted to CCETC–Ogua Energy Limited, with the State Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, presenting the approval at the ministry’s office in Benin City, the state capital.
The event was witnessed by representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Investment, the Edo State Rural Electrification Agency, and other government parastatals.
Usenbo said the issuance of the provincial licence underscores the state government’s commitment to opening up the power sector.

According to him, the initiative is part of deliberate efforts to attract private sector investment, expand electricity generation, and address the challenges associated with inadequate power supply.
He noted that the project is expected to significantly boost power availability, support industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the overall standard of living for residents.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of CCETC Taihu Industrial Park, Ologbo, Jiang Fan, assured that the company would deliver the project within the stipulated timeframe, adding that the firm is committed to justifying the confidence reposed in it by the Edo State Government.
The development marks another step in Edo State’s drive to strengthen its energy sector and reduce reliance on the national grid.
