The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed an attempted robbery incident at its Ogbomosho Transmission Substation in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate that a group of armed men gained unauthorized access to the substation premises by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate late Saturday night. The intruders reportedly advanced to the gatehouse with the intention of attacking and overpowering the vigilante security personnel on duty.
However, the security team successfully repelled the attackers by firing warning shots, forcing the suspects to retreat and flee through the same route used to gain entry. In the process, the fleeing suspects abandoned some tools and personal belongings near the fence wall.
An early morning inspection of the facility revealed abandoned implements suspected to have been used in the attempted attack, along with traces of blood and footprints leading to the point of escape. A further search conducted after daylight resulted in the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the intruders.
The incident has been reported to relevant authorities, and TCN said it is working closely with security agencies to investigate the matter and prevent a recurrence. No personnel were injured during the incident.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its installations nationwide and ensuring the safety of its staff and critical infrastructure. The company also disclosed that a formal report of the incident has been directed to the Oba’s Palace and is scheduled for submission on May 11, 2026.
