NDPHC inaugurates new injection substation to boost power

The Niger-Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has inaugurated a newly built 1x15AmVA, 33/11KV injection substation to help address power supply challenges in Ungwa Rosa and surrounding communities of Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Managing Director NDPHC, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, said the distribution substation was completed along with the construction of a 4.6km of 33KV overhead line from Mando transmission station and a 8km of 11KV overhead line.

Ugbo who was assisted by the managing director and chief executive officer of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Garba Haruna, noted that the injection substation is one of the intervention projects by NDPHC essentially to ensure that stranded generations in power plants are taken and delivered to Nigerians. He said that the project which cost over N200,000,000 also has a Completely Self Protected (CSP) distribution transformers designed to ensure safety of power supplied.

He informed that the substation has capacity of about 70 percent peak electricity load with the feeders radiating from the substation supplying some centres in the state. Some of the areas to benefit from the substation he said will include, 1 divisional Nigeria Army headquarters, Kaduna, the entire Ungwa Dosa area and Zaria road, 30 Mosques, 15 Churches, 45 Schools, 30 Shopping complexes, 10 hospitals, eight private clinics as well as 23 welding shops.

“There are two feeders radiating from the substation which includes legislative feeder serving the legislative quarters and Ungwa Disa area with a peak load of 200A which is equivalent to a 4MVA,” Ugbo said. “There is also Ragin Guza feeder serving Rafin Guza area, Hayin Banki and some parts of Kawo areas with a peak load of 340A which is equivalent to 6.5MVA.” Earlier, the Kaduna Electric managing director Engr. Haruna disclosed that the Disco is currently supplying between 15-18 hours of electricity with some other areas enjoying almost 24 hours supply, adding that the project is critical to the service delivery of her Disco.
