Findings showed the commission issued 114 registration/permits for the development of mini-grids to boost power supply across the country during the period.
The failure to meet target, according to NERC, comes at a time when the sector was considering an increase in electricity tariffs brought about by macroeconomic conditions.

Oduntan, who stated that Nigeria would require 200,000mw of power generation to meet the electricity need of its 200 million citizens, added that going by international standards, 1,000mw was needed to serve one million people.
According to Omonfoman, the problem is partly due to the non-implementation of cost-reflective tariffs by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), high technical and commercial losses exacerbated by energy theft, and consumers’ apathy to payments because of unfair estimated billing practices by DisCos, and poor metering implementation by DisCos.
The programme which is being done in collaboration with MOJEC International Ltd. commenced on Tuesday at the Ikeja Electric’s Shomolu Business Unit for customers in Ilupeju, Oworo and Igbobi areas of Lagos State.
It, however, noted that nothing was paid by the neighbouring countries and other special customers for the power supplied to them from Nigeria during the period.
This came as the Federal Government said on Wednesday it had commenced the procurement of four million meters meant to be distributed free of charge to unmetered power users nationwide.
