Power distributors that fail to supply the required quantum of electricity under the new service reflective tariff regime will compensate the affected consumers for defaulting in service delivery.
NERC explained in a media statement that “under these service-based principles Discos will only be able to review tariff rates for customers when they consult with customers, commit to increasing the number of hours of supply per day and quality of service. In all cases poor and vulnerable Nigerians will not experience any increase.”
Six of the nation’s power plants were shut down between 8:15pm on Thursday and 6am on Saturday, causing power generation to plunge by 1,190.3 megawatts.

But it is not yet clear if Siemens is willing to accept this responsibility as the firm rebuffed efforts to get them to confirm the development.
Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), has metered over one hundred and twenty thousand households between 2018 and June 2020. This is in line with its commitment to bridge its metering gap.

Providing reasons for the increase in meter cost, the commission explained that the hike in foreign exchange rate by the Central Bank of Nigeria was a contributory factor.
